Don't know, I looked on GOG's site but there doesn't seem to be any reference to the reason behind the change. Must have been a last minute thing, maybe a networking issue if they wanted to have a multiplayer match?

No need to be sad! On the bright side, both Deadlock versions are discounted on GoG.com, so if someone wants to get it, then don't miss this opportunity.
