What are the squares for?

Post by Emala XI »

When you view the world map on its largest scale and left click on a territory that territory is subdivided into squares. What is the purpose of these squares, given that you cannot move within territories; the only two movement maps are the large strategic and the city.

Thanks

That's the way the map was generated.
(Technical: The world map is discrete, it's a matrix of squares and each territory is a set of squares.)

The squares make it very easy to detect the neighboring territories, then it's much simpler for you and to the game to detect when a territory is next to each other. This is very important for several reasons: the units can move a specific number of territories per turn, neighboring territories also define the paths that connect the settlements. This defines if the goods may face blockades or if your units need to go through enemy territories when moving.

It's also linked to the territory size you set when generating the world.

There are probably other meanings around.

Despite that, I don't think that showing the squares in top down view is really necessary.
